M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt is manufactured to DIN 933, precision-forged from 304 stainless steel and fully threaded M6-1 × 10 mm. Its natural, uncoated finish offers outstanding corrosion and oxidation resistance, making it ideal for high-humidity, acidic, alkaline or food-grade environments. Easy to install and delivering stable torque transmission, M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt is the perfect fastener for precision machinery, medical equipment and premium kitchen appliances.

M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt: the new benchmark for duplex stainless-steel fasteners
M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt is forged from a duplex stainless steel with an approximately 50 % ferrite (α-Fe) and 50 % austenite (γ-Fe) microstructure. By precisely balancing Cr 22 %, Ni 5.5 %, Mo 3 % and N 0.16 %, followed by solution treatment at 1050 °C and rapid quenching, M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt achieves a “one-plus-one-greater-than-two” synergy: austenite provides excellent toughness and cold-formability, while ferrite delivers high strength and superior resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking (SCC). Its PREN value is ≥ 34, far exceeding that of 316L.

Mechanical performance
M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt offers a tensile strength ≥ 800 MPa, 0.2 % proof stress ≥ 640 MPa, elongation ≥ 25 % and hardness HRC 28–32—roughly double the strength of conventional 304/316 bolts. This allows designers to reduce thread diameter or pitch under the same preload, enabling overall weight savings. Charpy impact tests at –40 °C give KV₂ ≥ 100 J with no brittle transition, while creep tests at 280 °C retain >90 % of original strength, making M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt suitable for subsea, arctic and high-pressure/high-temperature duties.

Corrosion resistance
In neutral salt-spray tests (ISO 9227) M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt remains rust-free for 1000 h, compared with only 200 h for 304. In 6 % FeCl₃ solution its critical pitting temperature (CPT) is ≥ 35 °C, whereas 316L achieves only ~20 °C. The duplex grain boundaries arrest crack propagation, extending SCC life more than ten-fold in boiling 42 % MgCl₂ solution. Consequently, M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt excels in chloride-rich environments such as offshore platforms, flue-gas desulfurization towers and seawater desalination pumps.

Environmental advantages
M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt requires no plating or coating, eliminating hexavalent chromium, nickel-bearing effluents and VOC emissions. Its high yield strength cuts fastener quantity by 20–30 %, indirectly reducing ore and energy consumption. The material is 100 % recyclable, complies with ISO 14021 and EU REACH, and is listed in the green-procurement catalogues of DNV, ABS and LR.

Future standard
Already standardized under ISO 3506-6, performance class 80 (800 MPa tensile), M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt delivers a 15 % weight reduction and double the service life compared with 316 A4-80. Its stable duplex structure retains >50 % austenite after cold work, preventing magnetization and meeting non-magnetic requirements for precision electronics and LNG valves. With surging demand in hydrogen energy and CCUS sectors for “high-strength + high-corrosion-resistance + low-carbon” fasteners, M6 D2-80 Hex Bolt is poised to replace traditional austenitic and coated carbon-steel bolts, steering the fastener industry toward higher performance and a lower environmental footprint.
