3. Overcoming the Biggest "Aluminizing" Hurdle
The biggest challenge during the order was surface treatment. The client originally requested U-bolts to be "Aluminized."
We transparently explained that due to strict environmental regulations, aluminum coating was temporarily unavailable.

1. Transparent Production Progress:
Due to the ongoing confirmation of coating details after the holiday, production progress was slightly affected. We proactively apologized and explained: U-bolts require a complex "thread rolling" process, which takes longer. We provided real-time updates and estimated shipment around the 26th or 27th of the month.
2. Marking & Shipping Mark Confirmation:
Before shipment, we confirmed marking details: Washers marked as QS + SS347, U-bolts as QS + B8CA, and Nuts as QS + 8CA. Considering the special shape of U-bolts makes stamping difficult, we proactively proposed "laser marking" for the U-bolts. The client readily agreed.

Why Stainless Steel U-Bolts Do Not Need Aluminum or Zinc Coating
A coating is normally applied to carbon steel to keep moisture away from iron. Stainless steel works on a different principle. SS347 and ASTM A193 Gr. B8CA are austenitic grades that form a thin chromium oxide film on the surface, and that film rebuilds itself after it is scratched. Aluminum or zinc on top of it does not make the film stronger.
The real risk is galvanic. Zinc and aluminum sit far from stainless steel on the galvanic series. Once the coating is damaged, or salt water bridges the two metals, the coating becomes the anode and corrodes quickly, and the stainless steel underneath can pit. An extra layer can therefore leave a fastener in worse condition than an uncoated one.
There is also cost. Coating adds an outsourced process, extra handling and, with aluminum, a longer lead time, because aluminum coating has been largely phased out in China under stricter environmental rules. On an SS347 or B8CA part you pay for protection the material already provides.
There are cases where a coating is still correct: carbon steel fasteners, or a project specification that explicitly requires a finish. If your standard asks for a coating on stainless steel, we will quote it, but we will put the galvanic risk in writing before production starts.
Sourcing Checklist for a Custom U-Bolt Order
Most quoting delays come from missing drawing data, not from price. In this order two dimensions were absent and the quotation had to wait for one email. If you are sourcing custom U-bolts from China, these eight points let us quote in one pass.
1. Thread length and overall height. For this order: 101 mm of thread and 166 mm to the top of the U.
