SS 304 Socket Weld Flange
One-Minute Overview
- Socket weld flange with a recessed bore that receives the pipe before welding.
- SS 304 body keeps water, food and general chemical lines clear of rust.
- Common on small bore lines where a fillet weld beats a butt weld.
- Size, pressure class and facing are confirmed with you at inquiry.
An SS 304 socket weld flange joins a small bore pipe to a flanged connection by slipping the pipe into a machined socket and sealing it with an external fillet weld. The stainless body carries the corrosion resistance of grade 304 into the pressure boundary, so the joint holds up in water, food processing and general chemical service where a carbon steel flange would start to rust.
The pipe slides into the socket until it meets the shoulder, which squares the pipe to the flange face and holds the two parts concentric while the weld is made. A single fillet runs around the outside where the pipe enters the socket, so there is no internal weld bead to restrict flow and no bevelled end preparation on the pipe. Because the socket centres the pipe by itself, the fitter does not need a line-up clamp at every joint, which is why the type is common on small bore utility, instrument and drain lines.
Grade 304 stainless brings its chromium-rich surface to the wetted parts, so the flange resists the rust and staining that carbon steel picks up in water, washdown and light chemical exposure. The material also welds predictably with common stainless filler, and the finished joint can be passivated if the service calls for it. Selection is settled at inquiry: pressure class, nominal size, raised face or flat face, bore size for the pipe wall and the material documentation you need are all confirmed against your line data before the order is released.
Detailed specifications, dimensional drawings and material documentation for this socket weld flange can be provided on request, and our team will match the facing and bore to the flanges already on your line.
