Carbon Steel 45# Blind Flange
One-Minute Overview
- Forged 45# carbon steel blind flange for a 2-1/2 inch flange joint.
- 150LB class with a raised face, dimensioned to ASME B16.5.
- Black anti-rust coating keeps the plate clean before it is fitted.
- Strong stiffness and good sealing at the lower pressure bands.
The CS 45 BL flange is a 2-1/2 inch blind in 45# carbon steel, forged and finished with a raised face to ASME B16.5. At 150LB it belongs to the low pressure end of the range, which is where most water, drain and utility lines live, and where the cost of a forged blind against a fabricated cap is easiest to justify. The plate is solid, so nothing passes: the joint stays closed for as long as the blind is bolted in place.
Name: CS 45 BL Flange
Size: 2-1/2 Inch
Pressure: 150LB
Material: 45#
Flange Face: Raised Face
Process: Forged Steel Flange
Coating: Black Anti-rust Coating
Standard: ASME B16.5
Blanking a 2-1/2 inch line usually happens for one of three reasons: the branch is finished and capped, the section is going into a test, or the line will be extended later and the end has to stay closed until then. A blind flange handles all three with the same part, and unlike a welded cap it comes off again with a spanner. The 45# carbon steel body is forged, which gives the disc its stiffness and keeps the face flat across the bolt circle, so the raised face loads the gasket evenly instead of pinching one side.
The black anti-rust coating protects the outside of the forging in the yard and in damp plant rooms, and it is worth keeping intact until the joint is made. Clean the seating band, fit the gasket listed for the service, and tighten in a star pattern in two passes. On a 150LB water line the gasket usually decides the outcome, so match it to the medium rather than to what happens to be in the store, and check the face for rust or grit before the blind goes in.
